In addition to all our behind-the-scenes contributors, we are indebted to the late Charles H. Sheldon. A member of Washington State University’s faculty from 1970 to 1997, Sheldon was the Claudius O. and Mary W. Johnson Distinguished Professor of Political Science. He wrote for political science journals and law reviews about courts, judges, and the law. He was an editor of Government and Politics in the Evergreen State, and he authored a number of books, including A Century of Judging: A Political History of the Washington Supreme Court; The American Judicial Process: Models and Approaches; and Politicians, Judges and the People. He also recorded over 100 hours of conversations with past Washington Supreme Court Justices and clerks. He died September 13, 1999.
